Hello!

We are building our garage directly attached to the house – at least that’s the plan for later; for now, it’s just the house.

Our front door will have a triple locking system with an automatic lock (RC1). All the windows are also RC1 rated.

The door to the garage is currently just a standard steel fire door with a standard lock and single locking mechanism. Because of this, I wanted a proper side entrance door with the same lock as the front door.

However, it seems such a door is not available as a fire door.

1) Is a fire door or a smoke-tight door (T30) really necessary there?
2) Does anyone know of T30 doors with a solid (at least triple) locking system (automatic lock installable) and an acceptable U-value?

Regarding 1: Depending on the national building code, but usually an FH30 door is required (fire-resistant, yes, but not necessarily smoke-tight).
Regarding 2: Both Teckentrup and Hörmann have such doors in their catalogs, and there are probably more manufacturers. You might want to ask the supplier of your windows and front door if they can offer something (please share specific models and prices here again!).

I have now found out that steel doors with a single locking mechanism are actually not that bad. Due to the solid construction of the door, this seems to be sufficient. At least there are suppliers who offer this with RC2 rating.

Therefore, I am considering a "standard" T30 door with a motorized cylinder.

PS: The person selling me the "standard" doors said the side entrance door would be sufficient. Only the site manager has raised concerns but is currently clarifying this.

We have now decided on a steel door with a T30 fire rating, RC2 security classification, and a continuous seal.

We want the same lock for both the front door and the side entrance door, so we will order matching cylinders for both doors.

But then without the option for automatic opening/locking, right?
