Hello everyone, I would like to modify my Ikea Platsa wardrobe to make it more personalized and better suited to my room’s layout. I’m especially interested in practical DIY tips on how to change its appearance or improve its functionality without much effort. Are there ways to repaint the panels, swap the fronts, or add useful accessories? Any advice on reinforcing the structure or integrating lighting would also be very helpful. I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

Simply cover your PLATSA units with adhesive film – this instantly changes the look and can be removed without leaving any residue.

If you want to go further, you can replace the handles and feet, which makes a big difference.

You could also integrate lighting using LED strips; the adhesive surfaces on the back panel are ideal for this.

Such standard tips hardly bring anything new – who wants generic adhesive film when a bit of creativity can really make a difference?

I see PLATSA more as the perfect canvas for genuine upgrades: How about custom-built wooden cladding on the exterior to completely disguise the frame? Or tailored metal inserts that are not only stylish but also functional?

Most DIY enthusiasts underestimate how much potential lies in combining simple furniture with craftsmanship. Just film? Nope.

I completely agree. A sensible step in the PLATSA modification is to start with precise planning to ensure the modules remain stable after the renovation.

- A good option is to replace the thin Ikea cardboard back panels with thicker wooden boards. This significantly increases stability.
- For the fronts, using plywood panels that can be stained or painted in color is worthwhile.
- If lighting is to be integrated, I recommend warm white LEDs with a dimmer to adjust the atmosphere.

Those with good woodworking skills should consider replacing the hinges and fittings with higher-quality models for better durability and ease of use.
