4MotionWe spent Saturday carefully painting the roof eaves to protect the wood from wind, weather, and blue stain fungus. However, one of the roof truss beams has split from top to bottom due to drying. It’s impossible to reach all areas with a brush.
The roof structure was built last week. Is a beam like this on the outside considered a defect?
Thank you for your help!

That looks completely normal. The stability is definitely not at risk. With KVH (timber engineering beams), this is just typical. It’s exposed to intense heat and then it cools down again. This causes it to crack. Since hardly any rain reaches that area anyway, the wood won’t be affected as long as you can’t reach every spot inside the crack. Otherwise, just paint it as the professionals advised you.
