ᐅ SOS: Newly seeded lawn is full of weeds.

Hello,

About 4 weeks ago, we seeded grass on newly laid topsoil. The lawn is lush, but there is also “clover-like” weed. We suspect that the weed was already present in the topsoil that was brought in. The soil that was not brought in is free of it.

Does anyone recognize this weed and know what to do? Should we pull it out or leave it and treat it with weed killer next year?

Funny, I just mowed the grass for the first time as well (highest setting).

If you’re lucky, it is an annual plant and won’t self-seed if you mow regularly, so you’ll get rid of it on its own by next year. I don’t recognize any of the typical lawn weeds in it. Possibly mustard or rapeseed?

The leaves also look very much like rapeseed to me...

Keep the lawn neatly trimmed; this way, most weeds won’t stand a chance in the long run.
