ZarkdoHello everyone,
I recently bought a Malm dresser from Ikea and am currently trying to assemble it. Unfortunately, it’s proving to be more difficult than I expected. The instructions are generally clear, but I’m having trouble aligning certain parts correctly and fastening the screws properly without making the whole thing wobbly.
Are there any specific tips or things to watch out for when assembling a Malm dresser? I want to avoid any misalignment or instability once it’s finished.
I would really appreciate concrete advice or guidance on how to make the assembly process easier and more secure. Thanks in advance!

Hello Zarkdo,
I can easily understand that assembling the Malm chest of drawers can sometimes be tricky. One of the most important points is to first sort all the parts carefully and make sure you correctly match the screws and dowels. Often, uncertainty arises when the screws are tightened too much before all parts are properly aligned.
Make sure to fit the back panels properly, as they provide the chest with a lot of stability. The instructions recommend loosely connecting the side panels and shelves first, then gradually tightening the screws.
Also, it helps to assemble everything on a level surface and to use tools such as a cordless drill with torque control, if available. This way, you can prevent overdriving the screws and damaging the material.
If you like, I can also explain how to engage and align the drawers so they run smoothly later. Good luck!

Hey Zarkdo,
"This is brilliant!" 🙂 I also found assembling the Malm tricky at first, but with a bit of patience it works out great! The key is to really take your time and loosely fix each screw at first instead of tightening them all the way right away—this way you can still adjust things if something doesn’t fit perfectly.
I completely agree! Installing the back panel correctly solved all my problems. And by the way: If you ever need advice on aligning the drawers, just ask! 🙂 Keep at it, it’s really fun after the first time, I promise!!

Hello Zarkdo,
I understand well how frustrating the assembly can be. I also felt uncertain at first, unsure if the parts were fitting correctly and if I could make everything stable. Maybe this thought will help you: It’s completely normal to pause briefly from time to time, and that doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong.
That helped me stay calm and see the process in small steps. Also, double-checking the instructions exactly at the points where the pictures seemed unclear helped me a lot.
If you like, you can also mention the specific spots where you get stuck – maybe then we can help you more precisely. Keep your spirits up, it will work out for sure! 🙂
