I am considering whether to include the FA775 tall cabinet for refrigerator and freezer in my IKEA kitchen design. From what I understand, with the FA775 it would be possible to install an 88cm (35 inch) freezer at the bottom and a 122cm (48 inch) refrigerator above it.
I have the following questions:
- Has anyone done this? Or isn’t the refrigerator too tall in that setup? 88 + 122 = 210 plus 16cm (6 inch) for the base, so the top edge of the refrigerator would be about 2.26m (7 ft 5 in) high!!!
- What is the deal with the FA775 anyway? It is not listed in the IKEA kitchen brochure. It is available in the online kitchen planner, but shown with the wrong front (3 doors instead of 2). However, if you search for FA775 on Ikea.de, it is found correctly.
- The 88cm (35 inch) lower section is only separated from the 122cm (48 inch) upper section by a single shelf. Does this shelf actually support the weight of a 122cm (48 inch) refrigerator, or are the shelf and refrigerator both resting on the 88cm (35 inch) freezer below?
Or is the FA775 only intended for partial freezer/refrigerator combination units?
Thank you very much in advance for your answers.
Best regards

Nayla_106819 Nov 2012 20:37Hi,
That’s a strange situation. I haven’t come across that cabinet before. Well, never mind.
Basically, the cabinet itself doesn’t mind what goes inside, BUT the reinforced shelves and the carcass are designed for higher loads, but not to support two large, normally fully loaded refrigerators. The load specifications should be included in the cabinet’s information. Otherwise, please look up reinforced shelves from Rationell in 60x52cm (24x20 inches) at Ikea—they are the same ones. You can find the empty and full weights of the refrigeration units from the manufacturer.
Basically, I would advise against this combination anyway, even if it might work. Have you ever stood in front of a 233cm (92 inch) cabinet? They are incredibly tall. That’s why they are mostly sold with 3 doors to make practical use of the height. If you and your family are not at least 2m (6 ft 7 in) tall, it’s almost impossible to reach the top compartments without a step stool.
I would recommend avoiding this. Either choose at least one smaller unit or build two separate cabinets.
Best regards
