I am currently considering the best way to store spare parts for the Billy shelf, as over time I occasionally need to replace or add individual boards or connecting elements. The question is how to optimally organize and store these spare parts so that they are both well protected and easily accessible at any time, especially when dealing with various sizes of parts such as side panels, shelves, screws, or back panels. Does anyone have efficient methods for storage, possibly with tips on labeling or special storage containers? How do you ensure the parts are not damaged while still saving space? I look forward to your practical experiences!
I can only agree with KAULIS and would like to add that I prefer using assortment boxes with transparent lids for screws and fasteners, which are also stackable. This way, I save space and can neatly stack several boxes side by side.
It is also important to separate the parts by function and size to avoid searching for long when assembling. If possible, a digital inventory list is recommended, such as an app or a simple Excel spreadsheet, to document the storage locations of the parts.

Wow, there are already some great tips here! 🙂 I simply stored my BILLY replacement parts in these clear stackable boxes from the hardware store. I label them with colorful permanent markers, which works really well and makes searching much easier!
And very important: I always handle the boards with cotton gloves to avoid scratches, especially on the front edges, which must not be damaged – you notice it right away!
Looking forward to more tips here, I’m sure there’s even more to learn :-)

1. Always store wooden boards flat, not standing on their edge.
2. Use breathable covers (e.g., cotton cloths) to prevent dust without trapping moisture.
3. Screw boxes with multiple compartments are essential for keeping things organized.
4. When storing in damp rooms, adding silica gel packets helps to keep moisture levels low.
Although these measures are simple, they effectively protect the parts from warping and corrosion.

how to best organize and store these spare parts so they are both well protected and always quickly accessibleI found a practical solution using adjustable shelves where I can lay large boards flat as well as store small boxes for screws. With modular boxes that perfectly fit the shelf height, I can easily take out and put away parts.
Additionally, I numbered the boxes and keep a simple inventory list to know immediately where each part is stored. This saves time and significantly reduces searching.
