I had the idea to stack two wall cabinets on top of a base cabinet. I wanted to cover them with a side panel so that the joint between the two wall cabinets wouldn’t necessarily be visible. I’ve seen this done at Ikea before. Unfortunately, I didn’t ask how they did it 🙄.

The side panels come in different sizes. That means I would have to use a side panel from a tall cabinet. These are too tall and too deep! Do you have to cut them down then? Wouldn’t the coating come off if you do that?

I’m open to any ideas.

Best regards, fine

Hi,

There are often wall cabinets shown stacked on top of each other. For this, a 195mm (7.7 inches) cabinet side panel is used and cut down in height and depth. This must, of course, be done carefully so that the cut edges are not visible in the end. Mask the edges you cut with painter’s tape and use proper tools. A jigsaw with a new blade or even a table saw will prevent any fraying.

Best regards

Hello Fine!

I have already had the side panels for our kitchen cut in all variations, which went smoothly and looked perfect. I’m bringing up this post again because I want to share a suggestion or recommendation. Nayla gave a great tip about using a jigsaw or table saw with a new, sharp blade.

I’m not unskilled with tools, but I can’t manage a straight cut with a typical “DIY” jigsaw at all, and I also can’t imagine doing it with the usual table saws. I mean a perfectly straight cut!

We have a combined carpenter’s workshop and DIY store nearby that also cuts customer-provided materials. If you want to avoid buying a power saw that you would otherwise have no use for, and also don’t want to deal with sawdust and rough cut edges, you might want to consider this option.

My store cut all the side panels for our kitchen—left, right, bottom, and top—including a groove for invisible cable management of the LED diode lights for just under 75 euros. Everything is perfectly straight, no miscuts or fraying.

You might have to look for and find such a service provider, but it was worth the effort for me. I would have been really frustrated with a crooked edge, and replacement side panels can be quite expensive!

Hello fotokatze,
thank you very much. I believe we have two hardware stores that offer this. I will inquire tomorrow right away.

A carpentry workshop can also cut this to size. They can accommodate more options than most hardware stores.
