Hello everyone! I’m interested in an IKEA kitchen and understand that you need side panels for the visible sides of the cabinet boxes. And here I already have the first problem! The base cabinets have boxes that are 80 cm (31.5 inches) high, and the plinths are 8 cm (3 inches) high. The side panels for the 60 cm (24 inches) deep boxes are accordingly 80 cm (31.5 inches) high, but for the 37 cm (15 inches) deep ones, they are 86 cm (34 inches) high!

1. Why is that?
2. Do I have to cut the 86 cm (34 inches) panels down?

In this great 3D planner, there aren’t even side panels for these cabinets, only filler strips. I tried to figure it out using the software, but it doesn’t work.

Hello,

1. Because they are mainly used for the upper cabinets.
2. Yes. Or shorten the others in depth.

Hello IKEA-newbie, thanks for your reply! For the upper cabinets? Hmm, that only works if you use trim strips for the 80 cm (31.5 inches) and 100 cm (39.4 inches) cabinets. If you take 40 cm (15.7 inches) or 60 cm (23.6 inches) cabinets, you’re out of luck and will have to saw again...

Is the side panel width of 39 cm (15.4 inches) for the base cabinets even correct? Because the depth including the door for the base cabinets is 39.4 cm (15.5 inches), and for the upper cabinets with the front I want (Ringhult) it’s 38.8 cm (15.3 inches). Is it not intended by IKEA that base cabinets can be placed so their sides are visible?

Base and wall cabinet carcasses are both 376 mm (15 inches) deep with rail.

Yes, without the doors. However, the doors are 1.8 cm thick.

The measurements from IKEA confuse me. Can you help me with them? For example, for item number 899.076.40, Front Ringhult:

Width: 80.0 cm (31.5 inches) = total width of the carcass
Carcass depth: 37.0 cm (14.6 inches) = inside depth of the carcass = width of the side panels, since the back panel is just fiberboard
Depth: 39.4 cm (15.5 inches) = this must include the door and the rail, so without the rail it would be 38.8 cm (15.3 inches)
Height: 88.0 cm (34.6 inches)
Carcass height: 80.0 cm (31.5 inches)

But for the wall cabinets, the depth is listed as 38.8 cm (15.3 inches), which would suggest that, like the base cabinet, this includes the rail.

What is correct?
😕

37 cm (15 inches) is just the nominal depth. It seems someone programmed nominal depth instead of front thickness.
