Nils_231414 Nov 2008 14:32Hello everyone,
I have a question. In the new IKEA catalog, there is a sofa bed for 79€ (about $85), which seems like a real bargain. I’m looking for an affordable sofa bed for my guest room, but I don’t want to be responsible if my guests wake up with a stiff neck or a dislocated hip.
Has anyone out there ever slept on it? If so, I would appreciate a comfort review.
I’ve already received some tips here in the forum about buying a mattress, especially trying it out before buying, which was helpful. However, at that time I was on vacation and had enough time. Now, the guest is arriving next weekend, and I just won’t have time this weekend or during the week to get to the blue and yellow store.
So please! I’m grateful for any advice.
See you soon, Nils

Skyscraper17 Nov 2008 09:35Hey Nils,
Which sofa bed are you referring to? I couldn’t find any on the IKEA website at that price...
In general, a sofa bed is usually only suitable for guests or short stays. It can’t replace a proper bed with a real mattress. But for guests or a one-night stay, a sofa bed works great.

Sky

Lukas_303720 Nov 2008 13:17Hi.
You probably mean the SOLSTA 2-seater sofa bed. It is the most affordable option. When it comes to sleeping comfort, you shouldn’t expect too much for the price. It is certainly suitable for one to three nights. However, if your guest stays for one to two weeks, it might become uncomfortable. My recommendation would be the GRANKULLA/MASSUM for 119€. That’s a better investment for comfort.

Nils_231421 Nov 2008 13:32Hi Lukas,
thanks for the tip, it comes just in time. Tomorrow morning I’ll quickly go to IKEA to pick up the sofa, set it up at home, and then at three o’clock head to the station to pick up my guest. I’ll take your advice and spend some money 😉 – just hope they have them in stock.
I’ll tell you next week how comfortable my guests felt.
Have a great weekend...

Nils_231426 Nov 2008 10:36Hi Lukas,
here is the promised report. My guest slept "perfectly" on the sofa bed. Although we did go out quite a bit and they really enjoyed themselves 😉 I think I could have even put a whole bag of peas under the bed and they still would have slept "perfectly."
On Sunday evening, I made myself comfortable on the unfolded sofa bed to watch a movie. I didn’t wake up until Monday and ended up oversleeping.
The tip about the sofa bed was great – thanks again.
