ᐅ Sliding door completely disappears into the wall – how is that possible?

I noticed in the Viebrockhaus 425 (virtual tour on the website) that the sliding door between the living room and hallway completely disappears into the wall. How is that possible, and how do you get the door back out of the wall?

I mean, normally at least the handle should still be visible, so the door is only pushed about 90% to the side. But here, it is fully recessed.

We would also like to do it this way— is there a special trick or system involved?

From today’s perspective, we would find a double swing door in a really bright color somehow cooler. But now it is what it is.

Hello,

I think you have made the right decision.

Friends of ours have a double swing door between their entrance area and living space, and one door leaf is always left open, standing “in the middle” of the room.

I find your sliding door a more practical solution.

For this reason—the always open door—we chose to omit doors completely between the entrance and living/dining area, and so far we have not missed them.

.. and we are glad to have the door between the entrance hall and the living area; we close this door not only in winter.

I am planning to use a concealed sliding door between the open kitchen area and the hallway.

The structural conditions would now even allow making the door extra tall (up to about 2.60 m (8 ft 6 in)). Do you think that would look good? The downside would, of course, be the significantly more expensive door panel and possibly the increased weight. I wonder if that would noticeably affect the lifespan.

The builder thinks not, since they would use a reputable track system.
