ᐅ Side-by-side refrigerator/freezer units are now rarely seen without an ice maker.

We are considering getting a new kitchen in the next few years. For that, we want to install a separate side-by-side fridge/freezer unit. While browsing, it feels like about 80% of the models come with an ice cube dispenser. I seriously wonder who constantly needs ice cubes? I don’t know anyone—literally no one in my entire circle of friends and family—who uses ice cubes, and that’s been the case for over 40 years. So why do so many models have these features? If you don’t want one, the selection drops drastically. Another issue is that the new location wouldn’t have a water connection, which I assume is needed for the dispenser?
Does anyone here have one of these dispensers, and how often do you use it? Is it really something that improves your life, or just nonsense that gets dirty and sits unused?

probably have the same one as @ypg.We have the glass model. We need to have the main compartments on the right side. The different zones and the large vegetable drawer were important to me since we don’t have a basement. However, it was cheaper back then 🙄ypg schrieb:

Optimal! It would actually be perfect if both drawers could open with just one door open, but you can’t have it all. It’s definitely better than a side-by-side of that size.

We’ve never had such an “empty” refrigerator before. Everything still stays organized. The freezer holds an enormous amount…ypg schrieb:

Don’t even try using a cordless screwdriver on it—you’ll strip the screws immediately.

I generally have LG appliances at home: TV, dryer, washing machine, and refrigerator. I just really like their side-by-side refrigerators.I can’t say anything bad about their refrigerators. I don’t have much experience with LG TVs, and for washing machines, I stick with Bosch, Siemens, or Miele.
I don’t need flashy features or gimmicks; I need reliable service when something breaks.
We also have a relatively new washing machine from Siemens, which I am very satisfied with. However, I specifically choose a freestanding model based on noise emissions. In that regard, Siemens does not perform as well.
I do like the Liebherr CBNes 6256, but 5000 bucks is a bit too much for me. 🤨
