Hello forum,
the window reveal (the sides of the window opening) must be sealed with compressible foam tape. What about the window lintel (above)? Does the compressible foam tape also need to be applied on the sides there?

Yes, and also at the bottom.

Is there a standard or RAL guideline for this?

Almost all manufacturers of these tapes provide installation instructions according to RAL standards.
For example, from WÜRTH

Window sealing: A very complicated matter! I have now dealt with four different methods on every single window, and there are 28 windows in total. The fourth method is now satisfactory.
The complexity lies in the fact that there is no formal standard. There are only recommendations and guidelines, for example from the Institute for Window Technology in Rosenheim. However, these do not have to be strictly followed unless you have specifically included them in your contract, which is unlikely. Even compressible sealing tape is not absolutely necessary (although it is the best solution). What is important is a three-level sealing system (interior, middle, exterior). This must be continuous, including the top and bottom edges. Always make sure to obtain a specialist contractor’s declaration for window installation and sealing. This work should only be carried out by a qualified company. In our case, all 28 windows were installed and “sealed” during the first attempt within two days, but not by a specialist company. The fourth approach, involving removal, sealing, and reinstallation, took seven working days and cost nearly 7,000 €.
