Hello everyone.
Does anyone have black matte exterior windows and can share their experience? We want to have dark windows with a matte finish. The RAL 7016 color looks too blue to me personally, so we are considering something different. We also want the garage door in this color (from Hörmann). The advisor mentioned that this color is rarely sold, which made us a bit uncertain. The garage door in black is only available in a glossy finish, not matte—would that still match?
I would be very grateful for any experiences you can share.

I know someone who has windows in a brown shade and their garage door in the same brown. It looks good. For black, I would need a computer simulation to imagine it.

Of course, they rarely sell that color. Out of 100 garage doors here, 49 are white, 50 anthracite, and one brown.

By the way, our windows are also colorful because we don’t share the anthracite trend. We still don’t know if we’ll make the garage door colorful too. Given the size of our double garage, that would be quite a strong color statement.

Otherwise, I know two houses in the area that had beautiful blue/red windows, but they were sold and now both houses are anthracite. Just like no cars are colorful anymore. That’s just the current trend, but if you like something different, you don’t have to do what everyone else does... That’s the biggest advantage of building your own home for me 🙂

Is the garage door directly exposed to sunlight during the summer (facing south, west)? The darker the surface, the more it heats up due to the sunlight, causing the materials to expand. What does the building consultant say about this?

Isn't it the case that black, when it fades, also develops a bluish tint?

I would only use aluminum for black.

We are also considering making all the windows, external blinds, the front door, and a few other small details in RAL 9005. This decision has actually been on the table for a long time, yet we keep hesitating. We believe it will look very good, but we keep wondering why so few choose this color and whether it might cause thermal issues.

We have planned wood/aluminum windows, but RAL 9005 is a very deep black. If you look at a color fan deck, this black really stands out (definitely worth checking out!). I’m almost certain that with strong sunlight, you could literally fry an egg on it. Will a wood/aluminum window handle that kind of heat over time? I’m not an expert, but what about the connection to the plaster? The expansion of materials and the heat itself won’t be insignificant with black surfaces.

I’m also wondering about the color’s durability over time. Will the black still be truly black in 15 years? Personally, I don’t like the commonly used anthracite color everywhere. It often appears slightly bluish to me, and over time, it seems to get more bluish and uneven, almost cloudy, especially on aluminum. How will black behave in this respect?

Could these be reasons why anthracite has become more popular than black?
