Dear smart home experts,
We are currently working on the electrical installation and would like to install flush-mounted smart home switches on the ground floor and most of the upper floor. Our family uses the Homematic system, but the external additional module is a drawback. We want to avoid using that.
We will also have additional rocker switches (open/close) in the rooms. Still, we want to use the exposed walls to enable smart home control for the roller shutters without major extras.
When searching on Google, the finesell SmartHome roller shutter module 4-pack for €99.99 is regularly shown. It can be used without an external additional module and works with apps such as SmartLife.
Questions:
1. What do you think about this offered set and the app?
2. Are there any worthwhile alternatives?
3. How do you assess the SmartLife app?
4. How does the pairing process work?
5. Integration with Apple HomeKit is probably not possible (but also not a requirement)?
Hopefully, you can shed some light on this.
Best regards!

Westfale01013 Nov 2022 19:21Thank you all for the feedback and information. It will come down to the Bosch system. In due course, I will reopen this thread for further questions about integrating additional devices.
I would appreciate tips, tricks, and experiences related to the Bosch system for integrating other (useful) devices, such as smoke detectors.
Best regards!

Westfale01014 Nov 2022 11:48A question that actually came up this morning during a discussion with the electrician: Our internet connection is expected to be available only after moving in. The communication between the Bosch devices takes place via the Zigbee 3.0 wireless standard. Is an internet or Wi-Fi connection necessary at all for the proper communication and pairing of the individual actuators?
Of course, I understand that remote control from outside the house won’t be possible, but can the pairing process and the automatic roller shutter control be configured within the house using the Bosch controller app?
Also, Bosch refers to the actuators as light/roller shutter controls. Does that mean lights can be controlled with them as well? I’m considering having two or three lights controlled smartly to simulate presence. Are these the right light controls for that purpose, or are there a) cheaper and b) better suited options available?
Best regards!

Unfortunately, I cannot provide reliable answers to your questions, so it might be worth contacting Bosch directly.
You are correct that the central unit communicates on a different frequency than the individual actuators, but in my opinion, an internet connection is necessary for the setup, at least to configure the central unit (account, etc.). I doubt it will work without one.
There are separate switches for shutters and lighting (unless there are new models unknown to me). I still have 1-2 lighting actuators unused, which I haven’t installed yet 🙂
Other Bosch users might be able to provide more information.

I believe I have found the individual lighting controls. However, the roller shutter control is also referred to as Lighting/Roller Shutter Control II, which caused some confusion. As far as I can tell, the prerequisite for the new Bosch controller is the second generation.
Maybe someone else knows more 🙂
