Hi everyone,

We recently bought a house (built in 2000) that still has quite old patterned wallpapers with large skyline designs. Now we need to apply new wallpaper, and after reading a lot of information, we’re a bit overwhelmed and considering whether to hire a professional for the job.

We definitely want to stay flexible, so in case we want different colors or styles in 5–10 years. That’s why we thought about using a white non-woven wallpaper that could be painted over later if needed. Another idea was to use textured paint or something similar right away (we just need to find out if the wall behind is already plastered or if it’s bare aerated concrete blocks).

What are your experiences with this? Is there anything we should watch out for?

You should actually be able to feel what’s behind it through the textured wallpaper.

Use non-woven wallpaper. It’s easy to apply and anyone with basic skills can do it. If you want to change it later, it can probably be removed without leaving residue (although I don’t have experience with that yet, as we still like ours).

If by non-woven wallpaper you don’t mean painting fleece, then it’s almost the same anyway.

Non-woven wallpapers are based on a high-quality non-woven carrier material and come in countless designs and textures. Painting fleece is applied over a skim-coated wall and is often used as a base for paint. The wall is then very smooth, and the substrate "shows through," so the surface quality should be at least Q3.
