Hello IKEA fans,
We encountered a small issue while assembling our new Faktum kitchen. To securely fasten the base cabinets to the wall and to install the countertop, you need some space inside the cabinet. However, being curious, we already inserted all five drawers (RATIONELL) into one of the cabinets. It seems that once the drawers are clicked into place, they cannot be removed easily. But in principle, it should be possible to take these drawers out again, right? Is there a trick to this?
Best regards

Hello,
thank you very much for the quick reply, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work that easily for us. Maybe they have renewed their patent? When I try to lift the drawer, no matter its position (fully extended, halfway out, barely pulled out, or anywhere in between), some part feels like it will break before the mechanism loosens—at least that’s how it strongly feels :/

Ah, after further searching and experimenting, we have now found the solution. In case someone else has this problem:
There are basically two ways to release the drawers from the slides.
In the first method, you should be able to see the white plastic attached to the drawer through a small opening in the hinge on the underside, approximately 5cm (2 inches) behind the drawer front. You can use a screwdriver to push this plastic piece upwards to release the drawer.
For the second method, the front panel of the drawer needs to be removed. Then, the white plastic attached to the drawer, which is firmly locked into the grey plastic of the hinge, becomes visible. Using a flat screwdriver, you can insert it into the slot between these two parts and push the white piece upwards to disengage it from the lock.

schrauberine19 Nov 2010 16:51I recently faced this question myself – so I went to IKEA and had it demonstrated.
The pull-out method is quite intimidating and requires a lot of force. Especially the first few times you remove the drawers, you have to pull really hard – but it works (and please don’t pull on the drawer handle – you might end up holding it in your hand afterwards...).

Do not pull it out. Over time, the rail will get damaged. Always use the screwdriver method instead.
