Hello everyone,
we have a 120cm (47 inches) high double wire mesh fence on one side. It is 5 meters (16 feet) long in total, which means 2 panels and 3 posts. Along the entire height and length of the fence, PVC wind or privacy slats are installed. So far, everything is completely stable.
Now we would like to raise the fence from the current 120cm (47 inches) to 160cm (63 inches) or possibly even 180cm (71 inches). I have seen that there are special extension pieces (40cm (16 inches) or 60cm (24 inches)) available that can be purchased and inserted into the existing fence posts.
Has anyone had experience with this? Of course, we would also want to add PVC wind/privacy slats to the extension, but we are not sure if the whole structure will hold up (some manufacturers advise against weaving additional privacy slats through the extended panels). Could someone possibly share their experience?
Thanks in advance

You should ask the fence manufacturer whether the structural design of the fence accounts for the additional wind load.

I would first check the foundation; the fence manufacturer probably uses the same materials for heights between 120cm and 180cm (47 inches and 71 inches).

And please don’t just proceed without caution—I know a few fences that have not withstood the wind.

How can I check the foundation? I could ask the landscaper who built everything, but he will probably just say it "holds." As far as I know, the posts were set into the ground and concreted in place...
