Hello everyone, I bought a large double-leaf driveway gate second-hand, along with posts that are 1.80m (5 ft 11 in) tall. The gate itself has a total length of 4m (13 ft 1 in).
Now, I want to cover the unattractive green posts, which are 15x15cm (6x6 inches). I was thinking about using planting stones or concrete rings, stacking one stone on top of another all the way up, and cutting out space for the gate hinges in the top and bottom stones, or maybe pointing bricks around them.
What would be the best way to do this?

Thanks for your ideas and answers.

Regards, Sam

Our gate is not very tall, so I can't say whether the way it was done here would be an option for you.

First, a continuous concrete foundation was poured to prevent one post from settling differently than the other, which could cause the gate to become misaligned and stick over time.

Where the posts were placed, elongated recesses were made in the foundation. The metalworker installed fairly sturdy U-channels into these. The metalworker and the mason, who later built the posts with facing bricks, coordinated to determine the space needed for the bricks. Then the metalworker welded appropriate hinges to these U-channels so that they protruded far enough to allow the brickwork to be built and still leave a few centimeters (inches) of clearance between the gate and the brick.

Of course, the U-channels were also embedded in the foundation concrete.

Some time after the posts were built, they were filled with concrete.

I haven’t set up the fence yet; in the picture, it’s still at the construction site. We took it down, and it’s just lying here, so nothing has been installed yet. What would be the best way to proceed?

The fence and gate have been purchased, so if you like the fence, go ahead and install it. If you don’t like it, then it’s a pity about the money.

I don't understand what is supposed to be ugly about posts that have the same design as a gate you like (?). How is the fence (or the wall?) supposed to look with that – the picture probably shows the situation at the seller's place (?)

I also like the post. It suits the gate.

How will it continue on the right and left sides of the gate? Will there be a wall, or is one post attached to the house and the other in the hedge?

If you want to do it yourself, keep in mind that significant leverage forces are at play. If the posts are not perfectly vertical, the gate will swing open or closed on its own. A properly poured foundation is essential, even when using posts.
