Good morning,
Yesterday, we received a quote for a photovoltaic system. Our construction of the single-family house will start in October 2023 and is expected to be ready for occupancy in September 2024.
We have an annual electricity consumption of about 3000 kWh for our household, plus an unknown amount for the air-to-water heat pump (Weishaupt Biblock).
Our roof is oriented exactly south with a 25° pitch (gable roof). According to the calculation in the quote, the entire south roof is fully covered with modules (20 units), and the north roof is also equipped with 5 modules.
Attached you will find the details of the quote. The price is €20,900 net with battery storage and €15,900 net without storage.
What do you think of the offer? From what I understand in the discussions here on the forum, it is advisable to skip the battery storage. That would bring the cost to just under €16,000, which is a bit over €1,600 per kWp. That seems relatively expensive, doesn’t it?
Thank you very much in advance for your help.
Best regards,
Elias

Deliverer6 Jun 2022 14:42Adding a battery storage system plus maximizing capacity requires an additional inverter since hybrid systems are limited to 10 kW. The cost of the battery storage then exceeds €1000 per kWh (about $1000 per kWh). Depending on electricity prices, it can be cost-effective starting from under €400 (about $400).
The roof is now fully utilized; it’s best to retrofit battery storage on the AC side when prices are low.

Elias_dee6 Jun 2022 15:00Thanks to both of you!
@i_b_n_a_n He offered the charging station optionally for just under €1900, it is this one:
SMA charging station E-Mobil. 7.5 m (25 feet) 3-phase, EVC22-3AC-10 7.5m (25 feet) cable
I thought I would save the money for now (of course, have it prepped with empty conduits, data cables, etc.) and wait until there is funding again. Does that make sense? We currently don’t have an electric or hybrid car and won’t be buying one in the next few years...
@Deliverer Ok, that’s roughly what I thought too. So the north-facing roof really fully covered, right? He also told me he could put 3-4 kWp on the north roof (but probably the extra cost to fully cover it isn’t worth it)

But I thought I’d save the money for now (of course have it prepared with empty conduits, data cables, etc.) and wait for another subsidy to become available. Does that make sense? We don’t currently have an electric or hybrid car and don’t plan to buy one in the next few years...My brother installed the SMA with his last photovoltaic system. It’s clearly better than, for example, the Zappi we have at our house. The Zappi currently does not switch between single- and three-phase. I would also wait for a subsidy again... but who knows if that will ever come back?D

Elias_dee6 Jun 2022 17:31@i_b_n_a_n: Even if no subsidies come through, maybe the charging station will become cheaper... or in the future we’ll have more money again 🙂
@Deliverer: Photos will definitely come! However, I’m still unsure about the metal roof. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find any reviews or photos from others yet. My wife doesn’t want it because she’s worried it will look odd if the panels don’t cover the entire roof... :-/

Deliverer6 Jun 2022 17:50You don’t have to choose an ugly (white) industrial-style roof. In anthracite, it hardly stands out. With photovoltaic panels, the result looks seamless—partly because the panels lie flatter.
However, I don’t have experience with residential buildings, only with (less attractive) factory and warehouse halls. Planning everything from scratch for a new build would be my dream. Perfectly matching the roof area and the windows to the panels... ah.
