ᐅ My Kallax shelf was damaged after rearranging the furniture – is it possible to get a replacement?

DANPI58Hello everyone,
I recently rearranged my Kallax shelf to better fit my new living space concept. Unfortunately, I noticed that one of the side panels has small scratches and a slight dent that weren’t there before. My question is: Is there any way to replace damaged Kallax parts through IKEA or other sources, even if the damage was caused by moving the furniture rather than a manufacturing defect? Has anyone had experience with this or any advice on how to proceed? I would prefer not to replace the entire shelf since it is still in very good condition otherwise.
Thank you in advance for any help!

The warranty and return policies usually cover manufacturing defects, but not damage resulting from use or rearrangement.
However, I would recommend asking more specifically, perhaps in an IKEA forum or directly with a customer service representative. It’s important whether you still have the original receipt and how long ago the purchase was made. Some furniture manufacturers provide replacement parts, but I’m not aware of any cases where items were replaced after being moved.
Have you considered the option of repair? Sometimes that is a good alternative and more cost-effective than a replacement.

This is exactly the key point. If the damage occurred due to moving or rearranging furniture, it is advisable to consider a repair. Generally, there are no replacement parts available for Kallax to purchase directly from IKEA, but many home improvement stores carry suitable veneer paints or repair kits for minor damage.
My advice: Document the damage thoroughly, contact IKEA with all receipts, and politely inquire about possible solutions. However, the chances of a free replacement under these circumstances are rather low.

Hello DANPI58,
I had a similar issue with my Kallax some time ago. The side panel had a dent that I noticed after rearranging. IKEA kindly informed me that they do not provide replacement parts for damage caused by moving or normal use.
However, I didn’t have to replace the entire shelving unit. Instead, as already suggested, I carried out a minor repair myself: fine sandpaper, a matching wood stain from the hardware store, and some clear varnish made the dent nearly invisible.
This is really a good idea, even though the answer will usually be "no." If you take good care of the shelf, a repair will be the cheapest and quickest solution. If you like, I can write you a short guide on how I proceeded 🙂
Good luck!
