Hello everyone, I just replaced the laminate flooring in my living room and noticed that my Kallax shelf, which used to stand perfectly straight, now seems a bit tilted. Apparently, the change in flooring has altered or slightly unevened the supporting surface. My main question for you is: how do you usually level an IKEA Kallax shelf when the floor isn’t completely flat or is slightly uneven? Do you use special shims, adjust the feet, or are there other methods or tools you prefer? I’m looking for a permanent and simple solution to place the shelf securely and straight, without it wobbling or looking crooked. Thanks for your advice!

That’s great that you described the problem so precisely! 🙂 I had a similar issue after changing the laminate flooring at my place. My tip: Check if you have small furniture pads made of felt or rubber – these can be finely adjusted under the shelf feet. If it’s just a slight height difference, this works really well and is quick to do! If it’s more significant, I’ve also used thicker wooden shims underneath, which you can sand down easily. Just give it a try and keep at it – fingers crossed it works out for you! 🙂

Wooden washers or spacer blocks usually help. Align the feet of the shelving unit properly, then adjust accordingly. If adjustable feet are not available, replacement products can be used.

Simply buy small plastic feet, which are often height-adjustable. Otherwise, use felt pads as washers, layered and glued to increase height. This works well on slightly uneven surfaces.

That sounds good! I was thinking along the same lines, but I was worried the shelf might wobble with a soft pad underneath when weight is applied. Have you experienced that, or are such pads stable enough?

Could you please explain in more detail how you attach the shims? Just place them loosely underneath or glue them? I would prefer not to make any permanent changes in case I want to move the shelf to another location.

I had thought about something like that too, but I was concerned that the shelf might wobble because of the flexible base when weight is placed on it.

No problem! I specifically used firm felt pads that are thick enough and don’t compress too much. This keeps the shelf stable and prevents wobbling.

If you’re unsure, you can stack multiple layers to adjust the height precisely. After adjusting, my shelf was perfectly level! 🙂

In that case, I would definitely recommend self-adhesive felt pads, as they can be removed without leaving any residue or damage.
