ᐅ My Kallax unit is nearly impossible to move after laying the carpet – what can I do?

Hello everyone,
I recently encountered a small problem with my Ikea Kallax shelf. After installing a new carpet under the shelf, it has become very difficult to move, even though I was able to slide it easily before. I made sure the carpet is not too thick (about 5mm (0.2 inches)), but the friction resistance seems to have increased significantly.
My questions to the community: What practical solutions are there to make the Kallax easier to move despite the carpet? Should I use special feet, add casters, or are there other tricks to reduce the movement resistance on carpeted floors?
Thank you in advance for your recommendations and experiences!

Is there a specific type of rubber wheels you would recommend? And regarding your question: Look for wheels with ball-bearing axles, as they make rolling easier and ensure long-term low maintenance. Rubber wheels are also gentler on the carpet.

Wheels with a 30 kg (66 lbs) load capacity initially sound a bit excessiveThat is actually not excessive. It’s better to have a slightly higher load capacity than too low, so you can easily transport additional items or heavier objects without problems.
In general: Wheels with sufficient load capacity and rubber coating as well as simple installation are the best solution to compensate for a fixed carpet under a Kallax. If you don’t move the shelf very often, you can also just install wheels on the front feet and leave gliders on the back.
I hope this helps!
