Hello everyone,

Almost a year ago, we built a carport from Karibu. Everything went well during assembly. Unfortunately, now the carport has severe mold growth on two sides, and I would like to know what I can do about it.

I never painted the carport because Karibu says that pressure-treated wood does not require painting.
Can I sand it down, and if so, what should I use? After sanding, should I then paint the carport? If yes, with what?

Thanks for any help.
Best regards

I think you first need to find out why the mold is appearing. Wood can rot, but it usually doesn’t develop mold just from occasional rain hitting the carport wall. To be honest, I’m surprised that a carport can even get mold, since it is well ventilated after all...

So, it only looks like that from the outside. On the other side, there is no sign of this "change."

There is enough airflow everywhere anyway.

The wood would move through the fire bowl in my case,
you don’t want to sand that off because of mold.
And redo the wall once.

I would probably try to claim a complaint.
I don’t think wood used outdoors, which has been pretreated as specified, should develop mold like that.

Is that mold?
How does the wood need to be treated if I were to get something new?
