ᐅ Carport with a wide span without an additional central support post

Good morning,

I am currently looking into the topic of carports. Unfortunately, I haven’t found much information online; it seems that the usual carport manufacturers don't offer options for my needs.

What I require is a carport with a clear span of 7.2 meters (24 feet). Most common manufacturers only build up to 6 meters (20 feet).

I assume it will need to be a steel structure or a combination of wood and steel.

Do you know of any manufacturers that offer something like this? Visually, I would like to clad it with rhombus slats.

Our carport also spans 7m x 6.4m (23 ft x 21 ft). It is made entirely of wood and has no central support post on the long side. The beams are therefore quite substantial, but essentially a span greater than 7m is not a problem.

We had it built and installed by a local timber construction company (carpentry firm) in the area – if I were you, I would find out who can build something like this near you.

I found several suppliers through an image search for “extra wide carport.” Lippe Carports has pictures on their website. However, my personal recommendation would be to consult a carpenter.

Ok, until now I had always heard that wood is not suitable for the span.
Thanks for the tips.

That’s true as well: from an economic standpoint, it’s not practical. A wooden carport is meant to be simple to manufacture and assemble.

Beyond a certain span, only specific types of wood and large beam sizes are suitable, which are more expensive than a concrete or steel structure.

ok, bisher hatte ich immer gehört das Holz bei der Spannweite ausscheidet...

Take a look at the roofs of large sports halls or some supermarket chains – spans of 30m (98 feet) are quite common, and wooden beams are used to carry the load.
It’s all a matter of proper dimensioning.

Yes, but everything should still look harmonious... I don’t have unlimited ceiling height available.
I will take my time to approach this topic calmly now.
