Dear users,
we need a carport with an integrated storage room.
We are undecided between a pre-made one and a self-built option.
Does anyone have experience with a self-built carport?
For us, the financial aspect is the main focus. We have helpers available to assemble both options. Is it even worth building it completely on our own?
Thank you very much for your experiences and tips!

@BeHaElJa and Irgendwoabaier: Yes, at first we were thinking about a "hardware store" carport. Unfortunately, the model we wanted is no longer available. We’re not really satisfied with the others. A friend who is a mason will take care of concreting the posts.
That’s why we considered possibly building one ourselves. However, it will probably end up being more expensive than expected since good quality wood in these dimensions isn’t exactly cheap.
Most likely, we will now go with a purchased carport after all. Thanks for the feedback from both of you.

If the carport was not approved as part of the house building permit (planning permission), a separate application must be submitted, which requires structural calculations. These are already provided with the complete building kits.

DerBjoern28 Jul 2015 16:04I built my own carport, measuring 9 x 6 meters (30 x 20 feet) including a storage room. I had the structural calculations done, and then I ordered the wood cut to the exact lengths from my building materials supplier. I didn’t need a crane because I arranged for a few helpers to lift the purlins briefly. It was a lot of work, but it saved me quite a bit of money. However, you should have at least a basic level of craftsmanship to take on a project like this.
