Hello everyone,

Part of the barn was removed from our new house (previous owner). Now we are looking for ideas and practical solutions to reuse this space.

- Is it possible to simply fill it in and use it as a garden?
- Keep the red area / add a ceiling on top and fill in the red area

When standing directly in front of the red area, there is a brick wall with two windows and a door, plus a door on the side leading to the barn.

If we keep the green area, would we need a building permit / planning permission?

Who should I contact for this kind of work?

Looking forward to your suggestions and tips.

Well, I would first demolish the entire remaining structure.

Which remains? The barn that is still standing or the framework that supports the rest of the barn, which is still in good condition?

What happens if you tear off the green part?
What are your plans for the existing barn section? Leaving it open like that is not an option.

Tear it down, add topsoil on top, fill up to a suitable thickness, then plant.

We still need to add the topsoil, and the old wall has not been fully renovated yet.

Next door is the neighbor’s property (adjacent building). That was allowed back then. What would happen if I demolish it—I have no idea; probably only a structural engineer can answer that.

Ideally, I would like to simply fill in that area and use it as a garden.

For the other part, I would like to create a walkable flat roof with two skylights and place the hot tub on top.

Everything. I don’t see anything worth preserving in the whole photo. Bring in the contractor, the excavator, flatten everything, remove the debris – create a lawn and a garden.
