Hello!
During the construction of our new house, we had the electrician run only a CAT 7 cable for the doorbell, assuming I could easily connect a doorbell with an integrated camera to it. I believe this was a mistake. After moving in and doing some research, I found out that these integrated video doorbells usually require a 230 V power supply and send the video via Wi-Fi to a screen or smartphone. Unfortunately, I cannot supply 230 V through a CAT 7 cable.
Now my question is: does anyone know of a doorbell under 200 euros that can be powered via the CAT cable and can send video either through that cable or via Wi-Fi? The Ring Doorbell has very good reviews online. It either needs a battery (which is not ideal for me) or 12–24 V power from a doorbell transformer. In theory, could I supply this voltage over the CAT cable, or is the required current too high for the cable’s conductor cross-section?

Strahleman13 Aug 2021 22:42We got the Acuvox R26 back then. It runs via PoE over the LAN. The doorbell connects through a landline phone, and the video signal is also displayed there, just like the intercom function.
It currently costs 195 euros on Amazon. You just need to search for Acuvox IP DoorbSIap Intercom.

Is the CAT cable not installed in a conduit? If yes, wouldn’t there be space for an additional cable for the 24V power supply?Good idea! But unfortunately, there is no conduit present :-(B
Brainstorming24 Aug 2021 13:20Do all cables in a house need to be installed in conduit?
