Hello,

I am currently wondering if an empty conduit with a diameter of 50mm (2 inches) from the utility room to the attic is sufficient. The satellite system cables are to be installed through it.

Does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks

Only for the four cables? Also consider the PA – this should normally be routed at a distance from the coaxial cables.

But the conduit is more than sufficient.

I pulled 8 coaxial cables through a 50mm (2 inch) PVC drain pipe. It was quite difficult, especially at a bend, even though the distance wasn’t very long. Next time, I would use a 75mm (3 inch) pipe.

Running 8 coaxial cables through is really challenging. But whether it’s 4 or 8 cables, neatly bundle the entire cable run beforehand, temporarily secure it with insulation tape (if it’s a longer run), and generously apply lubricant—then it will slide through smoothly.

We pulled 4 satellite cables and 1 LAN cable through a 40mm (1.5 inches) conduit pipe. There was still plenty of space left. It depends on the satellite system whether you are using a switch or multiple LNBs...

Instead of one 50mm (2 inches) pipe, I would consider running two 40mm (1.5 inches) or two 32mm (1.25 inches) pipes. In total, you get the same capacity and can separate the cables if needed later. That’s how we did it.

The equipotential bonding (earthing) conductor is also run separately in our case.

The conduits should be sealed at the ends afterward to prevent drafts and condensation (at least that’s what we were told). We put some glass wool inside. It seals the opening but can be easily removed again.

A conduit between the utility room and the attic is generally advisable, but should it be planned from the start to fill it later?
Why not install the required number of cables right away during the initial installation?

Also, glass wool does not provide an airtight seal; the structure must be sealed airtight!
