ᐅ Looking for a shelving system/attic studio, is it possible to modify the IVAR shelving unit from Ikea?

Hello,

I am currently converting our attic into a studio and want to place my library there, which means many shelves. For example, the knee wall is 60cm (24 inches) high. I would like to fit two rows of shelves there along a length of 4.20m (13 feet 9 inches). Is a system like Ivar flexible enough for this? In other words, can I cut it to the appropriate height? Additionally, I would like to go significantly above 179cm (5 feet 10 inches) at the gable. Is that possible?
Finally, can Ivar be painted?

I would appreciate any questions or further suggestions/tips!

Best regards

IVAR is basically cut-to-size wood with holes drilled and lightly sanded – it can easily be cut and painted.

Hi,

Ivar is a good system if you are handy. You can build everything exactly the way you want. If you are not quite so skilled and don’t need a custom solution, then there is also the Broder option. It has the added advantage of being able to carry very high loads.

IVAR - is THE shelf!

It’s very easy to adapt to different needs and just looks great!!!
Whether painted, oiled, or natural – simply beautiful 😉

I just hope Ikea doesn’t eventually discontinue this shelf, like they did with Sten!
