ᐅ Loose KALLAX Screws – Is Threadlocker Recommended?

Hello everyone, I have a common issue with my IKEA KALLAX shelving unit: the screws keep loosening, especially those securing the corner joints. The unit itself is stable, but when I move it or rearrange it, I notice the screws become increasingly loose in some places. So, my question is:

Is it advisable to use threadlocker (such as thread-locking adhesive or similar) to secure the screws on a KALLAX shelving unit? Or would that cause problems later, for example when disassembling or adjusting it?

Perhaps someone here has experience with whether this type of locking actually improves the lifespan and stability, or if it’s not really necessary. Thanks in advance for your advice!

Hey everyone!

This topic is really interesting! I’ve been using threadlocker on my furniture for years and have never had any problems. It just gives me peace of mind knowing the screws will stay exactly where they’re supposed to.

KALLAX isn’t subjected to heavy loads, but if you apply a drop of medium-strength threadlocker, nothing will wobble anymore! It’s really that simple :-)

And if it ever needs to be taken apart, a good screwdriver will always get the screws out.

So my advice is: go for it! It’s brilliant if you want stability without much effort.

Thread lockers provide security. Use a medium-strength option that won’t loosen without tools but can be removed cleanly. Drawback: screws are more difficult to loosen when needed.

Thank you for the many helpful contributions!

One quick follow-up question: Do you have any recommendations on which brands or types of threadlocker are best suited for furniture like KALLAX? I want to avoid using any industrial superglue that might cause problems later on.

Also, should the screws be cleaned or pretreated before applying the threadlocker? Thanks in advance!
