IVANPEOHello everyone, I have a KALLAX shelving unit with door elements and I’ve been noticing quite regularly that the door hinges warp. This causes the doors to no longer close properly, sometimes to the point where they get stuck or can even fall off. I have already tightened various screws and realigned the hinges several times, but the whole thing remains unstable.
Does anyone have a good alternative to the original door hinge? I’m specifically asking about KALLAX, since the dimensions are quite specific and standard fittings often don’t fit. Maybe there are better materials or mechanisms that can provide a long-term fix? I don’t want to have to readjust constantly, so I’m looking for a durable, robust solution. kuKatharin26 Apr 2016 20:13I had the same issue with my KALLAX – what worked best for me was switching to sturdy metal hinges with additional screw coupling.
Standard plastic hinges are simply too weak and bend easily, especially when the doors are heavy. Just specifically search for "metal hinges for KALLAX doors," and you will usually find suitable sets.

But honestly: KALLAX is not a professional-grade piece of furniture designed to withstand decades of heavy use. If there’s an issue with a door hinge, that’s completely normal, and some readjustment is just part of the process.
There are alternatives, but most don’t fit perfectly and usually take more time to install than simply readjusting. Also, I wonder if the shelf itself might be unsuitable for your needs. Maybe consider a different, more solid piece of furniture—or remove the doors entirely and install sliding doors instead? Just a thought to consider 😉

I definitely think it’s worth properly optimizing the KALLAX doors, especially if the shelf is used often. Recently, I switched to high-quality stainless steel hinges that can be precisely adjusted and don’t warp easily. It really gives you peace of mind—no more rattling doors or constant readjustments.
Sometimes, a small seal or felt strip around the edge can help the doors close more smoothly. And if the frame remains stable, the door fittings will last longer. Just give it a try!
