Hello everyone, I am currently working on optimizing my IKEA Platsa shelving units and wondering if there is any specific accessory designed for them that helps create more order and structure. I am looking for solutions like shelf dividers, baskets, or other small organizers that can be easily integrated into the modules to better utilize storage space and improve organization. Can anyone share their experience regarding whether IKEA itself offers organizing accessories for PLATSA or if you need to rely on third-party suppliers? Details on handling, availability, and recommendations would be very helpful, as I am looking for the best practical solutions.

Yes, IKEA does offer some accessories for PLATSA that make organizing easier. For example, there are dividers, boxes, and baskets that are precisely designed to fit the modules. Additionally, some inserts from other series like VARIERA fit quite well. For more complex layouts, I usually recommend the boxes and drawer inserts, as they are very versatile.

Hello TATO65, your question about accessories for PLATSA is very relevant, especially for flexible shelving systems like this one. IKEA does offer a range of accessories, though not as extensive as for systems like Pax or BESTÅ. PLATSA combines modularity with customized elements, so there are:

- Plastic shelf dividers that can be easily hooked in without tools, dividing the interior of the shelves into smaller sections.
- Metal or plastic baskets specifically sized for the depth of PLATSA shelves, ideal for small items.
- Hook-in trays or small drawers that make organizing documents or accessories easier.

It is important to carefully check the dimensions, as the depth of PLATSA modules can vary slightly. Compatibility with accessories from other IKEA series often exists but is not guaranteed. If you plan to fill the shelves with many small items in specific spots, I recommend purchasing the shelf dividers together with boxes, as this offers great flexibility. Do you already have a clear idea of what type of items you want to organize? That would help to provide more targeted advice.

Hello TATO65,

I completely agree with Nathanaelk’s comments and would like to add that organization can be especially challenging with PLATSA because the modules are so flexibly combinable.

That sums it up for me. While there is an available selection of original IKEA accessories for PLATSA, it is comparatively limited compared to other systems. This means:

- You can definitely use compartment inserts, which are usually plug-in and are especially helpful for smaller items to improve organization.
- Metal or plastic baskets and boxes fit well and are versatile, but for heavier loads or specific requirements, you should pay attention to quality.
- Since PLATSA modules come in different depths (35cm (14 inches) or 60cm (24 inches)), I recommend checking the exact model before ordering accessories to avoid buying the wrong items.

If you want even more stability for the drawers, there are optional drawer inserts with roller guides, though these tend to be somewhat more expensive.

From my own experience, I would say IKEA provides basic practical accessories, but for special dividers or visually appealing organization solutions, it’s worth looking at third-party suppliers who tailor made-to-fit inserts or drawers. Flexible dividers or multifunctional box systems can be particularly helpful here.

It’s always important to measure carefully beforehand and clearly define what kind of organization you want – for example, cloths, shoes, tools, or office supplies – as that determines the type and size of the inserts.

I’d be happy to share examples that I use myself if that would be helpful!
