Hello everyone,
I was wondering if there is a way to equip Ikea Brimnes doors with a soft-close function. I am referring to the two doors of a Brimnes wardrobe, which unfortunately come standard without soft-close and often slam quite loudly when closing.
I have already considered whether standard dampers, like those used for regular cabinet doors, can simply be installed, or if there might be replacement hinges from Ikea or third-party suppliers that directly support soft-close.
Ideally, the installation should be possible without too much effort and without damaging the doors or the cabinet frame. Maybe someone here has experience or knows suitable solutions or tricks to retrofit this feature.
I would appreciate any tips or advice to help make the closing of the Brimnes doors quieter and smoother!

Alternatively, there are soft-close hinges with similar drilling dimensions as the original Ikea hinges, but the Brimnes version is structurally different, so a complete hinge replacement often becomes problematic. That’s correct, Brimnes doors have a simple suspension system and do not use the standard 3-hole hinges common in many kitchen cabinets. Therefore, a full replacement of the hinges with soft-close hinges is not a standard solution.
I therefore also recommend retrofit dampers, as they are compatible and much easier to install. Especially since they can be retrofitted smoothly without major alterations to the furniture.
There are several manufacturers of soft-close dampers specifically designed for Ikea furniture.
It is important that the dampers are matched to the door height and door type.
For Brimnes, installation and attachment on the carcass side with screws is possible without causing permanent damage to the door or carcass.
I would recommend purchasing a set of suitable dampers and carefully following the installation instructions, which are often included with the dampers.
Alternatively, it is also possible to use clamp-on soft-close dampers if drilling is to be completely avoided, although these may not be quite as durable.
