ᐅ Is it advisable to use only a small amount of wall tiles in bathrooms and toilets?

Hello everyone,
We are currently selecting our floor and wall tiles. At first, I thought we would only fully tile the shower area / shower niche on the walls.
I was planning to just plaster the toilet area and the washbasin to make it feel a bit more homey, even though the bathroom isn’t really a place where you spend much time sitting :-)
1. What do you think about this? Would that be too daring? Would it be better to have the toilet and washbasin areas tiled as well, about 1m or 1.2m (3.3 ft or 4 ft) high?
2. If we do tile the toilet and washbasin areas, should we also tile the side wall of the toilet area? Please see the sketch.

Over Christmas, I took a closer look at the flooring at some friends’ place. Yes, that’s actually true. One of my friends had 60x60 cm (24x24 inches) tiles in the guest bathroom. Two full tiles and a narrow strip fit in there. If you pay attention, it really stands out. I took photos for my wife and will ask her if 80x80 cm (32x32 inches) tiles are really a good idea and whether such a narrow strip would bother her.

She wants tiles as large as possible, with almost no grout lines (so rectified) That’s why the advice was:

A grout joint grid of 80cm (31.5 inches) edge length is already a heavy hitter that can visually kill a room. Your wife’s wish is a current classic, but it can ruin the floor.

Then it depends on who is more dominant in the conversation 🙂 I would let expertise win 😉

I would recommend consulting an expertStatus: We had the tiling done in the first of the four bathrooms. We chose the smaller sizes, 60cm x 60cm (24in x 24in). However, it must be said that in some areas, 75cm x 75cm (30in x 30in) or 80cm x 80cm (32in x 32in) tiles would have been much more practical because of the grout pattern.
For the living area, we are still debating whether to go with vinyl or tiles. We have also come across DryTile tiles (floating installation). Has anyone had experience with those?
