We were aware that the kitchen in our house is not ideally laid out, as it is an existing property, not a new build.

The problem is that the room where the kitchen is located has an L-shape, which is fully occupied by the kitchen units but without a built-in refrigerator. We bought a new, beautiful fridge, but there is no suitable place to put it inside the kitchen.

The L-shape along the window and one side wall is fully used, the kitchen is not large, and the refrigerator would have to stand free against the opposite wall, which looks and feels awkward in terms of space.

There is a small storage room off the kitchen, about 2.5 square meters (27 square feet), filled with shelves. Inside, there is a circular ventilation duct leading to the outside wall. If we remove one shelf, the fridge would fit perfectly there.

My husband thinks, however, that running a refrigerator in such a small room where the air does not naturally circulate freely could potentially be dangerous.

If this "storage room" is a pantry in the traditional sense, the refrigerator slightly disrupts the even temperature distribution in the space. However, if it is used solely for canned and dry goods storage, it doesn’t cause any issues.

Dangerous – what does that mean?
If the unit leaks and all its refrigerant evaporates, it probably dissipates more slowly there. But otherwise?

My visual imagination is currently exhausted.

The question is whether a refrigerator can fit in a 2.5 sqm (27 sq ft) small room? It can, but ventilation would be better—mainly for temperature control and thus for energy efficiency and the appliance's lifespan.

It generates heat while cooling. So it needs to be able to ventilate; otherwise, it ends up working against its own heat, which is obviously not good for energy consumption or lifespan. So, will it be able to get rid of the heat in the 2.4 m² (26 ft²) space?

A cabinet for a cabinet?
If this is your main refrigerator, I don’t think it’s a good idea to place it outside the food preparation area, especially with a door in between—it’s just too inconvenient!

Otherwise, it’s helpful in a forum to post a photo or floor plan so that forum members can offer suggestions that the person asking might not have considered.

My photo is too large again, annoying.

Yes, this is meant to be the main refrigerator. However, the pantry is only 1 meter (3 feet) away from the stove, so personally, compared to a refrigerator positioned in a very inconvenient location, this wouldn’t bother me.

I think if we ever replace this kitchen, the layout will need to be completely redesigned. For now, we probably won’t have any other option than to have the fridge either awkwardly placed against the kitchen wall or in the pantry. When the kitchen is redone, this dishwasher will have to be moved elsewhere. But that’s unlikely to happen in the next 5 years, unless we win the lottery.
