I have now had three contractors come to seal our garage roof, and I have received three different opinions and price quotes.
For a 6x6 meter (20x20 feet) garage, the prices range from 1400 to 3800 euros.
I just want a watertight garage that doesn’t develop mold inside.
What is the correct method for sealing a garage roof?
Are two layers of bitumen enough?
Is a layer of insulation required in between?
Is a vapor barrier needed?
How was it done in your case?

And I never had to use stop/go controls...
For me, it’s not too much effort, but everyone can do as they prefer.

I park a warm car inside – every day the same, and suddenly it’s warm – for hours I hadn’t considered that the car would be warm.
In my opinion, insulation only reduces the extreme temperatures. For example, in winter it changes from -20°C ( -4°F) to -10°C (14°F), and in summer from 35°C (95°F) to 30°C (86°F). It’s different if the garage is built into a slope, as the ground will provide some heat. In that case, insulating could make sense because the garage might be kept above 0°C (32°F), allowing it to be used as storage for liquids or plants.

However, definitely no detached garages – that should be taken into consideration.

I have an uninsulated garage attached to the north side of my house, on level ground, and this winter I stored plants in there. There was no frost inside. Maybe it’s also because, at least in our region, the winter was very mild? It was cool for a long time, but never really cold.
The winter before last also had no frost, but it wasn’t very cold then either.

Bieber08156 Jul 2016 22:12It also depends on the region. The Rhineland, North Rhine-Westphalia, etc., are almost frost-free year-round (I tend to exaggerate, but there is some truth to it), whereas east of the Elbe River or in more southern areas (Swabian Jura?), it can remain quite cold for a longer period.
Otherwise, I agree with Musketier in #29 ...
