I have now had three contractors come to seal our garage roof, and I have received three different opinions and price quotes.

For a 6x6 meter (20x20 feet) garage, the prices range from 1400 to 3800 euros.

I just want a watertight garage that doesn’t develop mold inside.

What is the correct method for sealing a garage roof?

Are two layers of bitumen enough?

Is a layer of insulation required in between?

Is a vapor barrier needed?

How was it done in your case?

Last winter, the double garage attached to the north side of my house never got colder than 7°C (45°F).
There were usually two cars inside, both driven daily for short trips.

The garage has 24cm (9.5 inches) Ytong walls (012), and the roof is insulated. Additionally, the window on the north side was usually tilted open for ventilation.

My large engines have always had a long "rumble" – that's why I made that comment.

And I never had stop/go traffic...

For me, it's not too much effort, but to each their own.

The old A4 in front of the house only has 4 cylinders anyway...

And by the way, I have never experienced frost in a garage... so something must be going wrong there.

No, you’re wrong—whatever you base that on. I never said I was referring to that car...

By the way, I no longer have the old A4 parked in front of my house.

There are a few features that give it away... but let's leave it at that.

Then you’re not familiar with this – but you’re right, better to leave it alone, otherwise it would be embarrassing.
