Hello, we have a table tennis table and would like to play on the lawn. However, the grass suffers a lot if you play for a longer time. Are there any ways to protect the lawn? Would grass grids help, so that you don’t step directly on the grass all the time, or how have you solved this problem?

I would leave out the table tennis table, then the lawn will look good again
No, unfortunately we don't have a basement, so we have to play outside.

So what do you actually use the lawn for?

To make it look nice.
But yes, repositioning it more often might help. We'll see how it goes. We haven't had the lawn for very long and haven't played on it much yet. It will become clearer next year when we use it more frequently.

If you have children who play in the garden along with their friends, you’ll end up with a “working lawn” anyway, even without a table tennis table. At that point, the table tennis table doesn’t make much difference (speaking from experience—I have three kids).

The lawn is meant to be a play area, and it clearly looks like one.

We had the same problem. Over time, the walking surface becomes muddy when the grass dies off, and walking barefoot isn’t enjoyable anymore. I was considering putting safety mats in those areas. No idea if that would have worked. For us, the table tennis table in front of it was removed and never replaced :-(

Yes, I have exactly these concerns as well. That’s why I was thinking about grass protection grids. They only cover a small part of the lawn, so you’re not constantly walking or slipping on the grass. But I don’t know how well they would work during play.
