Hello,

we recently got the Utdag, and I can’t say that it is excessively loud. However, I don’t have any reference points for comparison. Does anyone have experience with sound levels of the Utdag and possibly the Underverk?

Regards

Hello,
we have been using the Underverk for three weeks now. It does what it is supposed to and is not excessively noisy.

However, I don’t understand the connection in your statement, “we have sloped ceilings and limited space for wall cabinets, so an under-cabinet hood is needed…” With the Underverk, it is installed inside the cabinet and takes up a lot of space there. In addition, the exhaust duct runs vertically through the entire cabinet to vent the air back into the kitchen at the top side of the cabinet when used in recirculation mode.
At least with the Underverk, the wall cabinet is hardly usable. I assume that other under-cabinet hoods also have the exhaust pipe passing through the middle of the cabinet.
Best regards,
Christian

Thank you for the quick responses!

It’s good to know that the Utdrag isn’t perceived as overly loud; it doesn’t have to be whisper-quiet either (which would probably be too expensive for us anyway).

Yes, built-in range hoods unfortunately take up a lot of cabinet space, but having less cabinet space is still better than having none at all...
At least next to the duct, you can still fit bottles, spices, and similar items in an 80cm (31.5 inch) high cabinet.

As far as I know, the Utdrag is still considerably smaller than the Underverk. According to the IKEA website, for the LAGAN model in recirculation mode you don’t even need a duct (wherever it vents to then...), it’s just mounted under the cabinet.

So the space requirement is inversely proportional to the price – presumably, the more expensive range hoods have larger fan motors.

Don’t go for the UTDRAG, choose the UNDERVERK instead; the UTRAG is louder than modern airplanes during takeoff. Unfortunately, the Bosch/Siemens fan units don’t fit into the METOD upper cabinets because the cabinet depth is exactly 1 cm (0.4 inches) too shallow for the device.

The UNDERVERK is expensive, but it is also very elaborately designed visually, as it features a stainless steel cover at the bottom instead of a visible grease filter.

A small tip: if you’re looking for practical user experiences with Ikea products, it’s better to check ikea.at rather than ikea.de, since you can find customer reviews there similar to those on Amazon.

Hmm, the under-cabinet range hood takes up almost the entire space in the cupboard and is nearly four times(!) as expensive...
Very good tip with Ikea.at, seeing that I’m now almost leaning towards the stainless steel Lagan.

Take a look at the AEG DF6160-ML, which is a flat canopy hood similar to the UTDRAG and is rated with decent reviews at a major well-known online retailer. Some online sellers offer it from 160 EUR, which is a good mid-range price compared to others and from a manufacturer where you will likely be able to purchase replacement filters in the future.

There is also an identical flat canopy hood available from all BSH brands, where the narrow front is covered with a decorative trim. If you plan to install a decorative trim as a light cover on the upper cabinets anyway, this model could be an alternative and is priced similarly in the mid-range.

The lower the height of the hood, the smaller the motor diameter, the higher the speed it has to run at to achieve the same air output, and the louder the unit will be.
