Hello!

We have finally ordered our IKEA kitchen *excited*
Unfortunately, there was a small issue during the final consultation with the IKEA staff regarding the range hood.
I wanted to get one that is not visible from the outside. It should be installed inside an 80x60 cm (31.5x24 inches) wall cabinet.

According to the staff, I couldn’t choose one where the front panel "lifts up" because then the wall cabinet wouldn’t be allowed to be 80 cm (31.5 inches) high. That’s fine, no problem — there are also models that you operate with buttons on the bottom. But... then they said I wouldn’t be able to install a decorative trim at the bottom because there would be nowhere to attach it.

There are two more wall cabinets, each 80x40 cm (31.5x16 inches), to the left and right of the wall cabinet with the range hood. I think it would look odd if the decorative trim is missing in the middle.
Would it be possible to simply screw the decorative trim to the 40 cm (16 inches) cabinets on the left and right and just leave it off in the middle cabinet with the range hood?

Has anyone else had the same issue? How did you solve it?

Hello
I had a similar issue once:
I have a 60cm (24 inch) under-cabinet range hood installed in a 60cm (24 inch) wall cabinet, with two additional 40cm (16 inch) wall cabinets on each side.
It wasn’t possible to install a decorative trim across all three wall cabinets above because the trim would have overlapped with the halogen lights of the range hood.
Here’s how I solved it:
I shortened the back panel of the 60cm (24 inch) wall cabinet at the lower part, which allowed me to recess the range hood by the thickness of the decorative trim towards the kitchen wall. This made it possible to mount the decorative trim across all three cabinets from the front without covering any part of the range hood.
The downside is that the buttons on the range hood aren’t directly visible behind the trim, so you have to bend down slightly to operate the controls hidden by the decorative trim.
Best regards,

@Sektionschef:
But according to an Ikea employee, this range hood doesn’t fit in an 80cm (31.5 inches) high cabinet, or did I misunderstand that?!?

I’m ordering my range hood tomorrow and I’m still unsure which one to choose.

The height of the cabinet is not relevant. 202.565.99Maybe the Ms meant that the 60cm (24 inch) wide UNDERVERK does not fit into an 80cm (31.5 inch) wide cabinet.

IKEA expert, I wanted to ask you briefly again. I’ve just looked at the dimension drawings of the flat hoods you mentioned. The flat hood extends 4.1cm (1.6 inches) downward – the decorative trim (matching Bodbyn) is only about 3cm (1.2 inches) – I just measured it specifically. So you can still see the flat hood, right?
I’m just unsure. It’s also true that these recirculation units are less energy efficient than flat hoods. But I’m not really keen on spoiling the whole kitchen’s appearance either.

Regarding shortening the backsplash: I’ve looked at IKEA’s instructions (but for the flat hood), and it explicitly states that the cooker hood should not touch the wall (which would automatically happen if you cut the backsplash). Now I’m wondering if this is generally the case (maybe it’s dangerous?) for all cooker hoods.

EDIT: Wow, I just found something interesting. Siemens has a lowering frame! That might be the solution? If I position the cooker hood lower than it’s supposed to be, so it’s hidden behind the decorative trim, and then pull the flat hood out from under the trim using the lowering frame. That wouldn’t be bad. Could that work?

Here I have attached 2 pictures of my 60cm (24 inches) Underwerk.

In the first picture, you can see that the Underwerk now fits directly against the wall (tile splashback). This is only possible by cutting a part of the back panel.

In the second picture (also visible in the first), you can see that the decorative strip no longer covers the range hood.

If you were to install the range hood "normally" according to the instructions, the decorative strip would cover the halogen lights of the range hood.

If you want to use the decorative trim as a handle on the Siemens flat hood, you need to install the trim with the narrow side flush against the cabinet, meaning it should lie flat on top as a crown profile and have the wide surface below as the light strip.
I haven’t dealt with the recessed frame so far.
