MarczicHello dear IKEA enthusiasts,
We have equipped our Malm bed frame with two Sultan Laxeby sprung slatted bed bases and two Sultan Fonnes mattresses, each measuring 90 x 200 cm (35 x 79 inches).
However, the following problem has occurred: in my opinion, the slats shift too far to the sides, so after about two nights you end up sleeping on the edges of the slats. Of course, this leads to back pain.
The issue is more pronounced on my side of the bed, which is probably due to weight distribution.
My question is, how can I solve this problem? Is it a known issue, or is it perhaps completely normal? I wanted to discuss it here first because the purchase was made over three months ago, and the nearest IKEA is approximately 60 km (37 miles) away.
The only idea I have is to staple the slats to the fabric strip or something similar, but then the flexibility of the slatted base might be lost?
Best regards,
Chris

DanielaFe9 Feb 2010 14:54Hello,
this is not due to the weight. We also have this problem with the slatted bed base! The slats stand upright, so you actually lie on the edges! Not recommended!!
We will buy a new slatted bed base (not from Ikea) and return the Sultan Laxeby to Ikea over the weekend.
Best regards,
Daniela

Maverick18549 Feb 2010 21:10Hello,
I would pack the frame and take it to IKEA along with the pictures. Bring the receipt and either try again or choose a different slatted bed base.
But... what seems strange to me... In your pictures, the bottom slat is shifting. The top one fits perfectly. How can the bottom slat, which is really quite twisted now, twist like that??? Could the fault be there?
Just a thought. Check it again there. Maybe the problem is at that point.

DanielaFe10 Feb 2010 15:24Hello,
On my slatted bed base, the lower slats also shift, but the upper slats have twisted as well, so you end up lying on the edges of the slats. I suspect the plastic holders at the edges, where the slats are clamped, are poorly designed or there might be a material defect or something similar.
The slats are twisted in the same spots as shown in the photo, just even more steeply, always where a lower and an upper slat overlap.
Best regards,
Daniela

hello everyone,
Today I encountered exactly the same issue with my brand-new Laxeby double frame (2x70cm (28 inches)). The slats were so tightly tensioned that assembling the frame required a lot of effort.
The solution to the puzzle: the two inconspicuous slat straps are not symmetrical and have holes of different sizes. The side with the 17 smaller holes should be placed on the foot end.
