Hello everyone,

We are currently considering which sliding doors to use for our existing Pax frame (white, two panels, 1.50 x 2.36 m (5 x 7 ft 9 in)). We have encountered a few issues that no one has been able to answer so far. We want to have 2 doors with mirror panels and 2 doors in white. However, these are not available from a single door series. What exists are pure mirror doors (AULI) and pure white doors (e.g., Anstad). We now have the following questions that nobody at IKEA could or would answer.

1) Are the doors compatible (i.e., do they use the same track system and can they be installed overlapping or side-by-side)? We would like to have the two middle doors as mirror doors and the two outer doors in white.

2) If that is not possible: Is it possible to swap the individual white or mirror panels? Are they the same thickness?

It would be great if someone has already tried this or has any idea whether it works. The assembly instructions for both doors look almost identical. The answers from IKEA staff so far were: “We can’t tell you that.” “No idea.” “If you want to try, go ahead. But we won’t accept returns afterwards.” → Great.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

I just did exactly that (mirror in the middle, white panels on the left and right) – but with the 2x1m (3.3 ft) doors ANSTAD and AULI (wardrobe total width 4m (13.1 ft)). So I can share the following insights:

1) The track systems for ANSTAD and AULI including rollers, etc. are identical.
2) Frame constructions are also identical.
3) Connectors for the frame constructions (corners, crossbars between the panels or mirrors) differ – ANSTAD uses less massive connectors due to lower weight.
4) Panels and mirrors are interchangeable dimension-wise (same thickness). Whether this is advisable is questionable because of point 3), although the weight of the mirrors is then distributed. Visually very interesting would be to install the top and bottom panels in white on all doors and the mirrors in the middle.
5) The left and right door frames are not symmetrical; each has a "front" and a "back" mirror and panel door. I originally wanted both mirrored doors at the back and the white panels in front. However, the frame of the front door is wider. If you use this as the back door, the front door won’t be able to slide past it anymore, so it wouldn’t open. The only solution here would be a mirror door with a white frame and one with an aluminum frame – which could possibly look odd.

Other things that come to mind:
- Don’t be too smart and install the complementary soft-close mechanisms immediately – the doors can no longer be hung like that. Mounting them on the doors once hung is tricky but the only way.
- Leave a few millimeters of space between the inner carcasses, because decorative strips for the doors still need to be installed here (this is especially difficult if all inner fittings are already in place and you have to shift everything again).
