Hello dear IKEA fans,
I have been using IKEA furniture and small accessories for three decades now. This is where I have a problem. There used to be CD storage boxes (2 drawers stacked, or 3 for cassette tapes) made of milky-transparent plastic, at least in the colors blue, orange, and white. I would like to buy the white version (2 pieces) or, if necessary, exchange two blue ones for two white ones, but I can’t find the name, and searching (on eBay) always leads me to newer or different products. I estimate that these items are about 10 years old. It would be great if someone could help me with the name or even the stackable boxes (about 17cm (7 inches) wide and 34cm (13 inches) high).
Best regards

HamburgFan5 Feb 2009 00:36Hello Zappa,
I was looking through my old IKEA catalogs and found the items you described under the name – I hope you’re sitting down – "BOX"!
In the 1998 catalog, there is a CD box made of polypropylene for 48 CDs, priced at 25 DM back then.
There was also a diskette/music cassette box, holding 225 computer diskettes or 54 music cassettes, each costing 27 DM.
A drawer unit for 22 DM and a magazine holder for 15 DM complete the range. 😉
The available colors appear to be only milky-transparent, green, and blue. The 2- and 3-piece box sets you described can only be these. Unfortunately, exact dimensions are not provided – strange, since IKEA is usually known for always including measurements.
I hope this helps you, and I wish you the best of luck with the various potential sellers.
Maybe someone will respond here now that we know what these parts are called!
P.S. I’d be interested to know how well the boxes have held up over the years. Are the colors still the same?
So,
good luck to you 😉

Hello dear HamburgFan,
Thank you very much for your information. I have already searched for "box" several times but haven’t found anything yet. It is probably too small to appear in a listing, but I keep checking from time to time.
Regarding your question: the white parts have so far only developed a very slight, quite acceptable yellowing. Especially compared to other appliances we have in the house, which did not cost just a few DMs. So I would recommend them. However, they have the small downside that you can easily pull the drawers out, but then have to maneuver them back in somewhat awkwardly.
On the other hand, they have the invaluable advantage for me that, as a double set, they fit perfectly into a shelving system (wood black-glass, in this case not IKEA) purchased years ago in one go.
So, thanks again. I will keep looking...
Regards

As you can see from the time, it took a little while!
Good luck with your search!
