CatTankHello everyone,
I want to plan a Metod kitchen with a height of 88–91 cm (35–36 inches). However, I am only 155 cm (61 inches) tall and currently use a 107 cm (42 inches) old-fashioned kitchen, which is quite inconvenient. Is it possible to use the Metod base cabinets without legs (our floor is perfectly even)? Then, with a 2.8 cm (1 inch) countertop, the total height would be 91 cm (36 inches).
Thank you (and sorry for my broken German)

robi_aus_ffm24 Sep 2015 12:04hello cattank,
base cabinets are also available in a height of 60cm (24 inches). I wouldn’t place the cabinet carcasses directly on the floor. In a room where water might easily leak, the bottom of the cabinet will swell quickly, and then you’ll soon have to replace the cabinets and deal with unpleasant odors.
Also, dishwashers with heights of 60/68cm (24/27 inches) are only available as built-in modular units (as far as I know).
Regards, robi

I find it hard to believe in a "perfectly level floor".... If you don’t have a base or plinth underneath, you will always end up hitting the doors or drawers with your toes. For installing a cooktop, the 2.8 cm (1 inch) countertop might be too low if you still want to have the oven underneath.
Alternatively, you could just build a plinth from strips of board and screw the furniture onto it. But if you can live with 91 cm (36 inches) height, the calculation is actually quite simple (yours doesn’t seem to add up): legs turned down, cabinet body, standard countertop: 7 + 80 + 4 = 91
Best regards, Wolfgang

Hochglanz0130 Sep 2015 10:56Good morning,
We are almost finished with our white high-gloss Ikea Metod kitchen.
Only the small details remain. 🙂
We decided to skip the legs and use wooden slats instead, since with the cabinet height, kickboard, and countertop, we couldn’t really increase the overall height much.
It worked out very well. The visual cover as a baseboard still needs to be installed. We might use Dibond for that.
I would not choose a 60cm (24 inch) cabinet for space reasons—it simply holds significantly less.
If you place the cabinet directly on the floor, the drawer or cabinet door front could rub.
Also, with a proper baseboard, your toes are protected from bumps.
Wishing everyone a great day,
Hochglanz
