Hello everyone,
I am currently facing the challenge of how to best organize the storage space in my IKEA Metod tall cabinets. Specifically, I am interested in tips and strategies for not only maximizing the available space but also improving visibility, so that frequently used kitchen utensils are easily accessible while rarely used items are neatly stored away. Which organizing tools (e.g., inserts, baskets, rails) are particularly effective for this? And how can one prevent tall cabinets from quickly looking cluttered when storing items of varying sizes?
I look forward to your practical experiences and recommendations!

Hey mateo4,
I always find it really helpful to use small aids like non-slip mats. They prevent pots or bottles from sliding and making noise when opening and closing.
Here’s a little tip: a rotating tray or lazy Susan can make accessing deep corners much easier. Especially for spices or small bottles, it’s a real game changer! 🍀
And in the end, it’s also a bit more fun to work with colorful boxes and labels – that way you find what you’re looking for faster and it looks tidy too.

A rotating basket or lazy Susan can make accessing deep corners easier. This is a very valid point given the often deep or hard-to-see compartments in tall cabinets.
Additionally, I would like to point out that the Metod cabinet frames, with their standard width of 60 cm (24 inches) and variable heights and depths, allow for a wide range of accessories. This also makes it easier to install additional shelves or divider systems without custom modifications.
The recommendation would therefore be to focus on the IKEA accessories, as they fit precisely and are reliable.

Use the height-adjustable shelves to precisely customize the compartment height. How exactly do the height-adjustable shelves work in Metod tall cabinets? I haven’t seen many practical solutions, especially when it comes to very heavy pots or pans.
Are there specific support systems or mechanisms that are more secure than the usual metal pins? Also, I get the impression that the wooden shelves suffer from wear and tear when rearranged frequently. Does anyone have experience regarding their durability and stability?
The Metod tall cabinets use metal rod supports for the shelves, which is sturdy, but you need to use the exact holes in the cabinet body for positioning. For heavy loads, you can use additional center supports or stronger shelves; often, metal shelves are available for this purpose at IKEA.
Frequently repositioning the shelves can wear out the holes over time, so it’s better to plan a well-thought-out layout to minimize the need for adjustments.
