Hello,

I received my wonderful IKEA Kivik sectional sofa yesterday in a very nice dark red. It’s a beautiful, large couch that fits perfectly in my living room. Everyone was impressed.

However, the enthusiasm faded after just a few minutes. After assembling it, we sat down once to try it out, and suddenly the entire Kivik sofa was covered with white stains. In the evening, after showering, I sat on it again in more comfortable clothes. More white stains appeared.

I would guess these are water or sweat stains. Is the Kivik sofa that sensitive? I can’t rule out that one might sweat occasionally living in an attic apartment. Has anyone had similar experiences? Is this normal? How can I clean it? I’m already worried about using water on it.

Thanks

Hmm,

that's strange. Without knowing where the stains come from, it's obviously difficult to say.
Has anyone sat on it who might have had something on their clothes?
Which Kivik sofa do you have? Fabric or leather?
For leather, there are leather care products available everywhere at a low price, and the fabric covers can usually be machine washed.

My sweaty dark T-shirts also have white marks when they dry again. If that’s the case, the stains should taste salty...

It seems to depend on the fabric. I have the same issue with my Norsborg upholstered in Finnsta dark gray fabric. These appear to be shading marks that form after sitting on it. If you brush the fabric back and forth a few times, the "spots" disappear.

It bothers me a little too, so I placed a throw over the seating area. It also protects the fabric at the same time, which can't hurt. It's probably not the intended purpose, but I can live with it.
