Hello everyone, I have a somewhat special question regarding my IKEA Besta wall unit. Unfortunately, one of the corners of an element is damaged – specifically, the outer corner of the carcass has been chipped due to an impact, and the laminate is peeling off. My question is: What is the best way to repair this damaged corner so that it becomes stable again and looks good? Are there specific repair kits, adhesives, or techniques that work particularly well for the melamine-coated panels of the Besta series? I want to avoid replacing the entire panel or element since the damage is quite localized. Thanks in advance for your tips!
Hey, great thread here! 😎
I’ve also struggled with a corner like that before. Tip: If you repair the corner using a high-quality two-component adhesive, you’ll be really happy with the results. It cures hard and holds extremely well. Afterwards, use a small sanding block to smooth the edges, apply a bit of furniture polish, and you’re good to go!
Sure, it sounds like a lot of effort at first, but it’s definitely worth it because the piece will look almost like new. And hey, every corner you save is a victory against the throwaway culture 😉

6. Appearance: Color match with furniture wax or repair felt-tip penThank you for the great overview; it’s very helpful! I’m curious: Is there a trick for selecting the right color of wax sticks or felt-tip pens to match the shade of the BESTA panel as closely as possible? I’m concerned that the repaired corner might end up looking much lighter or darker than the rest.
