Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to use some IKEA Brimnes furniture at home and have a specific question: How well can IKEA Brimnes furniture be expanded, especially when combining several pieces like wardrobes, dressers, or beds modularly?

I am particularly interested in whether the individual parts are compatible, if there are official extensions that fit seamlessly, and whether there are any general limitations regarding stability or assembly when joining multiple pieces together.

Perhaps someone has practical experience with the expandability of this furniture series, for example when connecting wardrobes or installing additional storage units in combination with Brimnes.

Looking forward to your opinions and tips!

The BRIMNES series is generally well suited for extensions. Various elements, such as dressers and cabinets, fit well together because they have similar dimensions and designs. However, official extensions are only available to a limited extent. For stability, I recommend always securing furniture pieces to the wall.

I added another shelf to my BRIMNES dresser a year ago – it worked out great! 😊 The pieces look really good together, making the whole setup modular and flexible. When assembling, you should definitely allow yourself enough time and some patience, otherwise it can get tricky. Oh, and make sure to secure your furniture to the wall, or else it might tip over eventually!

Interesting how many people here believe BRIMNES is flexibly expandable. I find it rather limited. Sure, the pieces are visually coordinated, but mechanically they aren’t really designed to support longer combinations without losing stability. Anyone thinking they can just combine several dressers risks the whole setup wobbling or warping. That’s product design for the mass market – not very innovative, more focused on low-cost production.

That’s an interesting point. How do you manage stability exactly when placing two cabinets side by side? Are wall fastenings sufficient, or do you need to add your own reinforcements? I want to avoid damage to the furniture during expansion or potential risks to friends later on.

The BRIMNES furniture is fundamentally modular in design, which facilitates combined use of multiple components. However, official add-ons, such as top shelves or additional dressers, are only available to a limited extent.

From a technical perspective, the following points are recommended:
- Furniture pieces should always be properly secured to the wall to prevent tipping hazards.
- When placing cabinets side by side, connecting them with clamp fittings or additional screws is advisable, as this increases stability.
- Load limits must be observed; excessive extensions should not place undue weight on individual elements.

Overall, BRIMNES is suitable for moderate expansions, but due to the furniture’s construction, unlimited modularity is not given.
