berliner_12320 Jun 2015 20:32Good evening,
Our kitchen will have a depth of 70cm (27.5 inches), while the Metod carcasses are only 61.5cm (24 inches) deep. How should I attach the cabinets to the wall in this case? I assume that simply using a long screw is not practical (the screw might easily break and be unstable)?
Thank you.

with a long screw and a piece of wood between the cabinet carcass and the wall. Base cabinets, if they are not freestanding, are only fixed to the wall to prevent them from tipping forward. You need to consider whether fastening is necessary at all.

berliner_12321 Jun 2015 20:18Thanks, Ikea expert.
So you mean that screwing it on is rather optional? What diameter should be used for the long screws?
Side note: On the base cabinets, there will be a 4cm (1.5 inch) oak countertop, and the tall cabinet stands alone, of course. I’m always a bit concerned that with open drawers (we’ll be storing heavy pots and bottles), a lever effect might occur and everything could tip forward.
Thanks again.

IKEA-Experte21 Jun 2015 20:31If several base cabinets are placed side by side, screwed together, have a heavy countertop on top, and not more than one drawer is opened at the same time, I don’t see any risk of tipping. I have never anchored my base cabinets to the wall, but I also never open more than one drawer at once.
The length of the screw could be an issue. It’s best to check with a hardware store. It’s probably more practical to anchor a wooden beam to the wall and attach the tall cabinet to that.
